Brain science confirms that most of our behaviors (up to 95% in fact) spring from our unconscious beliefs, perceptions, assumptions and expectations. Our limiting, negative attitudes that hold us back and cause us to see failure and obstacles around every corner came from conditioning about which we have no recollection.
We accept this unhelpful conditioning as “just part of who we are”, but this is not true at all. Buckminster Fuller once said, “All children are born geniuses; 9,999 out of 10,000 are swiftly, inadvertently degeniusized.” That limiting programming is a part of growing up, is all unconscious, and under the right conditions, much of it can be undone. Even our positive traits can be massively strengthened through conscious, intentional effort.
The process we use to accomplish this…undoing our blocks and strengthening our abilities is known as “Developing Strong Self-awareness”. What is so wonderful about developing strong self-awareness is that it helps cope with change. The more massive the change, the better we cope with it. In fact the many positive traits of a self-aware person actually help them take advantage of change.
What exactly are those traits? Let’s looks at a list of the exceptional traits highly self-aware people possess:
- They display excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
- They exhibit elevated self-confidence and personal effectiveness
- They enjoy positive, satisfying relationships
- They show superior communication skills
- They possess impressive creativity.
- They display uncommon determination, high performance standards and focus
- They possess exceptional modesty and likeability
- They admire and show respect for friends, family and co-workers
- They live with a strong set of values that guides them professionally and personally
- They stand up for their principles yet understand and try to accommodate the beliefs of others
- They are considerate of others, treating them with respect and fairness
- They tell the truth, always with the intent to help, not hurt
- They display great flexibility of behavior, leading them to positions of influence and authority
- They view setbacks and challenges as opportunities to grow and get better
- They display great perseverance
- They set clear obtainable goals that match their values
- The never compromise their values, their truthfulness or their commitment
Look carefully at this list and see where you excel and where you might come up short.
The current crisis we face might well be the catalyst for a massive transformation of our economy, our society, of our personal expectations. As a society we are under too much stress, we pollute too much, we fight too much, we are far too sick and so many of us hate our work and the way we live. Our American dream is incredibly fragile for much of our population.
It will be the highly self-aware among us who lead our country, our world to a new reality, a new standard of care and well-being. In the aftermath of such a worldwide emergency, our way of living never reverts to the old or the comfortable. Recovery and rebuilding come with totally new thought and approaches about work, governing, social contracts, health networks and personal lifestyles. Flexibility, creativity, innovation and relationships all must be completely modified and reconfigured.
Who will do that? It will be those who can see the new vision, who have the confidence to dig in and start the rebuilding, who inspire and motivate. Is that you? It certainly can be, and we will need leadership that has the traits of the highly self-aware.
We often say, “Even one discovery can make all the difference”. Any discovery changes our assumptions, expectations and our perceptions about what is possible. Thus, a single discovery can open us to whole new insights about our capabilities.
So many clients have taken giant leaps in their relationships, incomes and career success, their happiness and, most important, their view of their own magnificence. They did it using the very same tools offered in our online course, 4 Steps to Freedom, Happiness, Confidence and Self-discovery.
