Winston Churchill stated during WWII, “You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing, after they have exhausted every alternative.” I’m not sure he had the right to judge the United States’ actions, since he had proved himself generally incompetent in prosecuting his military role for the British in WWI, and his political responsibilities just after the war. Yet his statement seems generally on the mark regarding human response to crises at any point in history.

There is a great deal to regret about the Current COVID-19 calamity, which could yet turn into an economic mess we haven’t seen since the 1930’s. A very positive development that seems to be proceeding right along with the destructiveness of COVID-19 is an acceleration of technological innovation along with a much-needed sociological shift. We are reading about quite creative transformation taking effect in medicine, technology, and education, while progress, albeit slower, can be seen in the institutions of business and government.

One group of psychologists see some growth in collective self-awareness because of this current crisis, a shift we happily take to heart. When a situation comes along that stops us in our tracks, we are forced to re-evaluate our values, beliefs, our goals and what provides meaning and purpose for us. Our attitude can also shift dramatically.

Numerous decision-points stare back at us…are we wanting to blame or forgive, grow or stagnate, resent circumstances or look for the good? Are we willing to look for opportunities or become resentful and embittered? Do we choose hope or discouragement? Can we use this experience to learn generosity and gratitude or will we withdraw into a shell?

Do you recognize all the positives we are presented with here? Which do you choose? We are faced with either transformation or stagnation. Which alternative leads to success, fulfillment and happiness, and which brings resentment, pessimism and failure?

Our new online course, 4 STEPS TO FREEDOM, HAPPINESS, CONFIENCE AND SELF-DISCOVERY provides a valuable introduction to building high self-awareness. Even one single discovery can change everything for you. Call us for more information today.
